Here is Trish doing some serious stuff…………….
S&CBC Day at Atkin Grant & Lang
The first Bun event of 2017 looked like it might be rather a soggy affair as I drove on the M25 in the pouring rain with a carload of girls. I needn’t have worried though, as by the time we arrived at Atkin Grant & Lang (AGL), it had stopped and before long the sun was pushing through.
It is tradition for a few of us to have one of the infamous AGL Bacon rolls when we arrive there, and today was no exception. Having sampled bacon rolls in a good number of shooting venues over the last few years, we are unanimous that those at AGL are the best that we have had…… so far!!
Back to business, and 36 ladies were on Laura’s list for the day. AGL is always a popular venue with Bun girls as we are always made to feel so welcome by Julian, Shara and all the folks at AGL.
Today we had the added excitement of AGL doing their first “Live” Facebook recording of the introduction by Julian and Laura. They both did an excellent job, and hopefully you will have seen the result online on both the Bun Club FB page and AGL’s FB page.
And so we went out to shoot; the beginners’ group and anyone else needing it were kitted out with hats, ear plugs and safety glasses, and the instructors took their groups out to shoot. The way they work it at AGL, each group starts on a different stand, so you don’t get held up on the way round. Having said that, my group kept catching up the group in front, so there was a good bit of inter-group chatter and banter going on plus a few selfies. Sometimes I wonder if it is a shooting event with a social side, or a social event with a shooting add-on! Anyhow, we all got the business done with the guns, and I think I can safely say a good time was had by all. There were a good variety of targets presented, and challenging but achievable is how I would put it for those shooting the 75 target course…. Something there for everyone.
The cake table was groaning with goodies, and the cake/savoury rosette went to Annette Oakley for her pheasant and pine nut pastillas. They were very popular and now she’s posted the recipe on the Bun Club page we can all give them a go.
For a small fee, those that wished, were able to do a flurry afterwards with the instructors as loaders, no pressure or scoring, just a bit of fun and always popular with Bun girls.
What a great day it was. Huge thanks as ever to the lovely Laura Everton for hosting the event and making sure that everyone was looked after so well. Thanks also to Julian, Shara and the team at AGL for welcoming Bun Club back again.
Our lovely winners were:
Beginners – with a stonking 26/30 Leigh Yoxall
Intermediate – Alison Young
Experienced – Cathy Curtis
